Example 2-Autobiography

My name is Hao-Chu Kao, I am studying in National Tainan Commercial Vocational School. There are four people in my family. My father was a supervisor of the personnel department at a school. He retired at the age of sixty-five. He often brought some books for me about literature when I was young. My mother was a nurse at Chi-Mai Hospital, but she resigned after marriage. She is a housewife now, and she is a good cook, too. The dishes she cooks are delicious and tasty. My brother is studying in a two-year junior college.

I was born in Taichung. My family lived in the dormitory provided by my father’s school. My parents usually accompanied my brother and me to go to the Jong-Jen Park to take a walk in the afternoon. There were brilliant and rich crops under the Jeou-Chiu Bridge. I liked playing with children in the neighborhood, so I enjoyed myself every day. We moved to Tainan on account of my father’s transfer to a new school during my kindergarten days.

I entered the elementary school at the age of seven. I often went to school on foot every day because it was a distance of five minutes' walk from my house. My classmates were mostly my neighbors. We often played "Simon says", "hide-and-seek", "jumping chess", and "Monopoly" etc, we got on with each other. In my fifth grade, I had learned painting, and I won the second prize in a cartoon drawing.

In junior high school, I made a spurt of progress in Chinese Literature, and had high marks at the monthly exams. I was especially grateful to my Chinese teacher for her instruction. Besides, I was interested in Biology and Earth Science, too. My class participated in the Boy Scouts Camping Activity of the school. We put up a tent, cooked a meal in the wild, had campfire party, and played operations etc. We really had a good time.

I took senior high school entrance exam two and a half years ago, and fortunately I entered the Accounting Department of my school. In freshman year, I got the chance to sing English songs, and introduce myself in English Conversation Club. It’s a club that makes me understand the difference between Chinese and Western literature. In junior year, I had an experience to watch some slides and films about pyramids and mummies of Egypt, impressionists' painting, tap dance, western style buildings, “PATCH ADAMS”, Hwang Mountain of China, and classical music in Art Appreciation Club. I think I can broaden my scope of knowledge by participating in the club.
